We work with the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management ('asapm') as a recognised Competency Enabler. asapm is the USA Affiliate of the International Project Management Association. The IPMA Level D qualification is therefore recognised worldwide. It is generic so an individual may carry it from job to job or from one industry to another.

The Proportion project management course has been developed to follow the goals of the 'asapm'. The work that candidates undertake on the course will raise the awareness of and standard for project management within their organizations.

The International Project Management Association, Level D qualification

The Certified Project Management Associate qualification (known as aCPP by the 'asapm') is a foundation qualification
The CPMA qualification examination is in two parts: a one hour and fifteen minute 100 multiple-choice question paper and a three hour written paper. The multiple choice paper tests the candidate's depth of understanding and knowledge against the 43 professional topics contained in the 'asapm' NCB National Competency Baseline. The second paper poses questions which demands written discussion.
The whole examination is designed to demonstrate the candidate's knowledge in respect of important aspects of project management.

Relationship with Other Qualifications
TheAmerican Society for the Advancement of Project Management (‘asapm’), aCPP is based on the IPMA Level D qualification which is recognized as the standard for competencies appropriate for project managers and is reflected in the syllabus requirements for CPMA. The CPMA is an internationally accepted, IPMA-validated qualification

The Course is designed to be an intensive and rigorous culmination of studies, building upon experience and some pre-course work. It is mapped to the current National Competence Baseline (NCB).

The Course generally covers 4 working days, including examinations on the last day. Attendance on all parts of the course is compulsory, as each part is designed to prepare the candidate for the aCPP examination taken on the last day.

Academically, the course including the prwe-reading equates to a 150 hour module.The aim is to move Project Manager education and learning opportunities beyond simple knowledge transfer and into skills, behavioral attributes and Competence. The Course elements

The Certification will be made on the basis of passing two examinations – the pass mark is 60% - the ‘asapm’ award the distinction Certified Project Practitioner (aCPP)

Each candidate will gain Full Membership of the ‘asapm’. The first year is compulsory upon joining the course. The fee is renewable annually for membership only and is currently $60 per annum. The first year’s fee is included in the course payment.

This course is based upon the ‘asapm’ NCB.  There are approximately 30 sections that are required to be covered within the teaching.   The course has been constructed to ensure that each section of the syllabus is covered, but they are not in a strict or defined order.  This is because Project Management uses many of the elements concurrently and in a variety of ways.

The course uses individual and group working sessions and expects the students to spend time throughout the course out of the standard "class" hours. In addition, a case study will be used in the course.

The order and timing will be confirmed at the beginning of the course. It is advisable to obtain and read certain documents prior to taking the course a helpful listed below. It is difficult to offer a choice, however the following recommendations will give a good grounding:

The course is necessarily intensive and without having read this and digested the contents participants will always be running to keep up.

Other reading is also recommended. It is difficult to make a choice, or indeed, recommendations. The following will give a good grounding:

Details of the Registration forms for the ‘asapm’ Examination are obtained from Proportion upon payment of the course fee. The Exam Registration must be submitted direct to the ‘asapm’ at least 10 working days before the examination. Failure to comply with this will mean exclusion from the examinations. You can still attend the course, but you would have to sit the examinations at a later date at additional expense. Note - at such a late stage, no refunds would be applicable.
